TYPICAL ITINERARY

Set sail from Sydney on your 34-night Australia circumnavigation Cruise to:

Brisbane, Australia
Once a harsh penal settlement, Brisbane is now Queensland's dynamic capital city. A blend of steel and glass defines the skyline, while riverside delights - botanical gardens, promenades, cafes and markets - mesmerize at eye level.

Hamilton Island, Australia
One of the Whitsunday Islands in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island features coral reefs, sparkling beaches and clear blue-green waters. Take an excursion to view the wonders of the reef or visit the Koala Gallery Wildlife Experience and see kangaroos, koalas, wombats and crocodiles up close. Or simply wander the soft sand beaches and take in the tropical views.

Townsville, Australia
Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Australia, in the state of Queensland. Adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef, it is in the dry tropics region of Queensland. Townsville is Australia's largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast, with a 2006 census population of 143,328, and a 2009–2010 estimated population of 185,768. Considered the unofficial capital of North Queensland, Townsville hosts a significant number of governmental, community and major business administrative offices for the northern half of the state.

Cairns, Australia
You may go "troppo" in Cairns, where lush rain forests run all the way down to the sea and jewel-toned fishes and giant, coral-encrusted clams populate the Great Barrier Reef.

Sherrard Island (Anchorage)
From the deck of your ship or from your private verandah, watch the sunset over Sherrard Island, part of Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Lying between Torres Strait and Cairns, an overnight stay anchored off Sherrard Island is available on select Australia cruise itineraries.

Darwin, Australia
Your chance to experience Kakadu National Park, a huge, pristine sweep of aboriginal land teeming with crocodiles, water buffalo, the water-walking Jesus bird. Its delicate cave paintings date back an incredible 20,000 years.

Komodo Island, Indonesia
One of more than 17,000 islands that make up the Republic of Indonesia, Komodo Island is most famous for its resident Komodo Dragons. The remnant of a once widespread ancient order of monitor lizards, this giant reptile often measures up to 11 feet in length and can weigh more than 300 pounds. Komodo Island is volcanic in origin, with dramatic landscapes of craggy mountains, deep canyons, savannahs and rain forests.

Lembar, Indonesia
One of our "off the beaten path" destinations, Lembar is located on the island of Lombok, just east of Bali. With its slow pace, beautiful beaches, enchanting waterfalls, and Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second highest volcano, Lombok offers quite days amidst spectacular beauty. Discover Tanjung Aan near the Kuta Beach, where the sand looks like pepper; shop for local handicrafts and weavings in the islands small villages; and drink from the fountain of youth at Narmada Park.

Exmouth, Australia
Located on the North West Cape of Western Australia, the port of Exmouth is home to the wonders of Ningaloo Reef. Ningaloo Marine Park boasts hundreds of miles of beach fringed coast, where you can watch dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles and more. Away from the beach you’ll find an Outback range with caves and red rock gorges to explore

Perth (Fremantle), Australia
Located between the Indian Ocean and Australia's famed Outback, Perth and Fremantle are rich in Aboriginal and British colonial history. Explore historic Fremantle and modern Perth; visit the Swan Valley region for vineyard tours and witness koalas and kangaroos in their natural habitat; and travel to the Outback and watch a desert sunrise over Ayers Rock.

Albany, Australia
Albany lies on the dramatic scenic coast of Western Australia and offers great attractions for history buffs and nature lovers. Take the Amity Trail Heritage Walk and discover 19th century buildings including a convict labor hiring depot, cottages, churches and pubs. Explore nearby Torndirrup National Park to witness the incredible views of King George Sound and watch for whales off the coast.

Esperance, Australia
Noted for its award-winning beaches and Mediterranean climate, Esperance is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Located on the south shore of Western Australia, Esperance is the gateway to five national parks including Cape Le Grand National Park, which offers a picturesque coast of largely granite terrain and sheltered white sand beaches. The park is a popular spot for recreational fishing, four wheel off-road adventures, and hiking.

Adelaide, Australia
The capital of South Australia, Adelaide is a cosmopolitan city of wide boulevards, fertile gardens and diverse architecture. Discover the Anglican Holy Trinity Church and the Parliament House. Explore the collection of Aboriginal, colonial, and Melanesian art at the South Australian Museum. Stroll the historic Adelaide Central Market, or simply relax beneath a fig tree canopy in the Botanic Gardens.

Melbourne, Australia
A genteel city of Victorian buildings, verdant parks and a vibrant multicultural heart full of galleries, restaurants, fashionable boutiques - no wonder Melbourne has been named the planet's most livable city.

Burnie, Australia
On "Tiny Tassie," as the Aussies affectionately call Tasmania, find flora and fauna unique to the island: the infamous Tasmanian devil, the platypus, Huon pines more than 2,000 years old.

Hobart, Australia
The capital of Tasmania, Hobart lies along the Derwent River and is dominated by the breathtaking Mount Wellington. Stroll the harbor side docks to browse artist studios, relax at a local café, and visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Nearby, sample the famous wines of Coal River Valley or view the magnificent cliffs of Port Arthur.

OTHER INFORMATION

The beautiful garden theme of the Volendam is reflected in an artful floral motif throughout the ship's spacious public rooms and elegant staterooms. "Flowers" can be found in abundance in the forms of floral fabrics and tapestries, as well as huge vases of tropical floral arrangements and chrysanthemums. In addition to fresh flowers throughout the ship, Holland America Line has drawn on its collection of incredible artwork to enhance the interior of the ship's public spaces. Everything from pre-Columbian fetishes and sculptures to Renaissance-era fountains imported from Italy are included in its hallway galleries. At the heart of the ship an elegant sculpture by Luciano Vistosi, inspired by the myriad of moods and colors of a kaleidoscope, greets visitors in a soaring three-story atrium. Sail aboard the Volendam in 2009-2010 and explore Asia or Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. The Volendam also offers cruises to Alaska's Inside Passage and Glacier Bay.

CPP (the Cancellation Protection Plan) allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours prior to the cruise departure and receive a refund equal to 80% of the applicable cancellation fee. In addition Holland America Line assumes US$500 of liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage subject to the limitations of the baggage policy. While CPP is optional it must be booked and paid for at the time of deposit, and is non-refundable.
